Djinda Ngardak Kinjarling 2023
The Prepare Produce Provide Djinda Ngardak Kinjarling 2023 event was a celebration of the efforts achieved at the World Indigenous Tourism Summit held earlier in the year at Crown Perth.
The Djinda Ngardak Kinjarling 2023 culinary program was curated in collaboration with Elder Vernice Gillies and family, and industry professionals Chef Paul Iskov, Chef Tanya Healy and Chef Mellissa Palinkas.
The program took place from the 21st – 26th November in Albany WA. The Djinda Ngardak program brings together youth from across WA through food and education. Students had the opportunity to learn skills, be inspired and share their culture through food. Participants were involved in a weeklong series of cultural activities and industry-based workshops before showcasing their skills at the Long Table Lunch which took place at Irrerup – Mt Adelaide.
The bespoke long table lunch began with a walking cultural tour of Irrerup. Irrerup, is the old lookout point for Menang people. Particpants joined Menang Custodians Vernice Gillies and Larry Blight for an hour-long walk to the popular meeting place and heard stories of the connection between Menang people and their neighbours. Of looking out to sea, seeing the Mammang and watching for ships entering their waters.
Guests then joined DN chefs and students for a celebration of culture and connection with a four-course long table lunch paired with non-alcoholic beverages followed by perfomances by two lcoal dance troups and live music by local musicians Bilya Beats.
